A great team performance saw Luzern win their first away game of the season relatively comfortably vs. CERN.
As Amber unfortunately had an injury flare-up during warm-up, we were left with exactly 12 players to play a 12 a-side game. The game started poorly, with Luzern failing to claim the kick-off and CERN gaining possession. Fortunately, they knocked-on after a couple of phases and we had chance to re-group and start playing some real rugby.
Our forwards dominated the breakdowns all day long, giving Petra nice clean ball to set the back-line moving. Heidi & Gemma crashed through in the centres the whole game and Lolli was causing havoc out wide as usual. CERN cover defense was good, so support was needed to convert line-breaks into tries. Some nervous hands in the back-line kept the score lower than it could have been.
CERN rarely had the ball and when they did the Luzern defense was solid stealing the ball in the tackle or turning them over at the ruck quite quickly. On the single occasion that the first-line of defense was broken Carole made a great full-back tackle causing the ball carrier to make a forward pass trying to use her support.
Luzern played with concentration from the first minute to the last and won by 65-0.
Angel of the Game: Heidi for so many bruising runs through the centres (also chosen by CERN as our best player)
Devil of the Game: Gemma after great support she ‘scored’ a few centimetres before the try line. In an unprecedented event, Gemma has won Devil of the Game three times in a row and therefore gets to keep the horns forever 🙂
Congratulations to Anuschka for her first try!
Tries: Lolli (6), Anuschka, Gemma, Lala, Petra, Sarah Mac Conversions: Lolli (5)
