Dangels Win on the Road

Only 11 players were able to make the trip to Neuchatel to play
against an Yverdon side depleted by injury who had only 6 players.
Melly & Tammi were the heroines of the day, playing the full game for Yverdon.
This left us playing 3 x 15 minutes of 8 a-side (that’s a long time
remarked the referee & in the hot sun it was indeed a long day).

Our game plan was to use the space on the pitch & keep the ball away
from contact with the larger Yverdon girls.
We did exactly the opposite of this in the opening few minutes &
Yverdon turned the ball over, caught the Luzern defence having not
kept a close enough eye on the blind side & scored the opening try of
the game. 7-0 down.

We started to move the ball a little better & use our superior pace to
put some tries on the board. We deliberately lined our backs up
against the Yverdon forward on every kick-off & took full advantage of
this mis-match to score some easy tries. Yverdon always looked
dangerous with the ball in hand, some of our tackling was not as
aggressive as it needs to be & our defensive mauling in particular was
poor.

During the 2nd & 3rd ‘halves’ we started to tire & lose the crispness
of play that was present in the 1st. Our back-line continued to
function well, especially Heidi & Meli in the centres. Good support
from Judith & Lala led to a bucketful more tries.

Cap’n Mac even managed to bring her kicking boots with her.

Final score 87-7 to Luzern. Job well done.

Our thoughts now turn to next Sunday’s big game vs. Zurich; if we can
win this we’ll go back to the top of the table & the title wil be ours
to win or lose. Would be great to have some travelling support!!

Angel of the Game: Meli whose running lines & timing of the pass were
outstanding. Iris was a very close second after another great game.
Devil of the Game: Tammi. Played an absolute stormer for the opposition!

Tries: Meli (3), Heidi (3), Judith (3), Lala (2), Cap’n Mac (2)
Conversions: Cap’n Mac (11) (85% baby 🙂 )
