Match report
With the horrible taste of a painful defeat to Zurich last November still in their mouths, a motivated Dangels side travelled to Monthey on Saturday and produced a superb all-round rugby performance that hints at greater things to come in future. Played in perfect rugby conditions and glorious sunny surroundings, the Luzern team started the long road back to the top against a tough-tackling Mermigans side who were unlucky to find an opponent in no mood to give an inch.
After a slow start, Luzern ran in a try every 3 or 4 minutes and maintained a consistently high level throughout. Forwards mixed in with backs at every opportunity and the wingers saw the majority of the chances to score, normally following well-worked passing by teammates in the central positions. Credit to the Mermigans, who never gave in and kept coming back for more even in the face of some relentless aggression and clever running by Luzern. Not many teams would have been able to deal with the attacking play of the Dangels on Saturday.
Luzern must not stop improving. There was a chance for the Mermigans to score a penalty after a silly offside and some of what has been learnt in training is still being forgotten at certain points in the match. Consistency is key and that will be reinforced at trainings. But for the first game of the second half of the season, it is a good start and a more than pleasant bus journey back home to Switzerland’s most beautiful town (when the sun shines)!

Angel of the Match: Tabea. Three tries and every time she got the ball in space she scored. There is much more to come from her in the future.
Devil of the Match: Luke. ‘Didn’t attend training hardly at all in February.’ [Worst reason ever given for what is supposed to be a matchday punishment as I was hardly in Switzerland in February – but beer gladly taken after a great all-round performance]
Beers for: Paulina. First game and as expected showed no fear at all (she’s Polish).
Beers for: Kathy. First game as coach and she had a great trip, especially on the bus home J
