Match report

Luzern finished the fifteens season in style at Allmend on Saturday, recording an emphatic victory against a tough-tackling Mermigans side in damp conditions. The whole squad was utilised to the full, with every player getting at least 20 minutes game time despite having to start the match with 14 a-side due to Nyon/Monthey struggling with injuries.

After a slow start, Luzern raced away with the first half and had 50 points on the scoreboard by the break. Following agreement between the coaches and referee, the match was increased to 15 a-side for the second half and Jasi kindly agreed to play in the centres for the Mermigans, acquitting herself well as expected.

The match was notable for a superb contribution by Tabea on the wing; a disciplined performance at the breakdown with fewer penalties conceded; some more positive off-loading and support play from our dynamic pack who saw a man of the match performance from Salome; a hugely promising debut performance by Oumou; and the usual unstoppable dynamic running display by Lolli who scored an incredible 7 tries and also kicked fantastically well.

The season will ultimately be remembered as a disappointment, mainly due to the poor first half of the season. However, it is through adversity that the good teams become truly great. Perhaps in a few years time it will be seen as when a new team with a new attitude became ready to attack Switzerland’s rugby titles for many more years to come. We will only find out after the Summer, but it is exciting to imagine how far this team can go.

Tries

Carole x 7
Judith x 2
Esti x 2
Tabea x 2
Salome

Angel of the Match: Salome. Has improved her game beyond all recognition over the past two years and has been rewarded by becoming a key member of the squad
Devil of the Match: Lala. Something about getting everything translated into English on the Dangels chat and the fact it was her birthday
Beers for: Oumou. CERN voted her best player and it was her first match
Beers for: Melissa. Very sad that it was her last match for the Dangels, but she will always be part of the Luzern family!
Beers for: Luke. Last match as fifteens coach and he is very proud to have helped train this fine team over the past few seasons. Just the small matter of St. Gallen left now J
