Match report
A disjointed and frustrating performance from Luzern meant a third defeat in four games on Saturday in Konstanz. What began as a sunny day with perfect conditions turned quickly into a nightmare as a lack of communication, handling errors, lack of aggression and seeming lack of motivation provided a humbling result that nobody foresaw.
Zurich’s young and talented side deserved a convincing victory for their aggressive tackling, better organisation and impressive goal-kicking. Luzern very rarely ever got near the Zurich goal line. Two first half tries and one in the second allowed them to comfortable hold off a weak challenge from the champions, who now must head into the Winter break with new motivation and a work-ethic to match the other sides in Switzerland. The talented players are unquestionably within the squad. The application of these players during training and more crucially in matches needs to be significantly better. For now, it is time to accept that the championship will be heading elsewhere for the first time in 4 years.
It is now that we will see what this team and players are made of. The team spirit is there. The talent is there. With a renewed sense of motivation and some hard training, we can still finish the season strongly.
Angel of the Match: Ylva. Could not have given more, tackled superbly and ran aggressively with the ball.
Devil of the Match: Jen. Passed a ball at Iris from 2 metres with so much power it rebounded off her head before she even saw it! (and she is leaving us, booooooo)!
