Match report
Bright sunshine and 29 degrees heat awaited the Dangels on September 12th in Basel. It was the first game in 300 days, and the 17 Lucerne players were accordingly over excited. The game was therefore slightly rusty. The Dangels dominated the whole game: They were in possession of the ball more often and most of the game took place in the opposing half of the field. But the Dangels also tended to be a bit slow, in defense and in the rucks, where the Birds were often able to play to one of their strengths – stealing the ball. The first half of the game still was positive for Lucerne as far as the score was concerned: After just five minutes, Judith was able to make the first try after a sprint across half the field, and about 20 minutes later Oumou doubled up. At halftime, it stood 10-0 for the Dangels.
Just a few minutes after the start of the second half, the freshly substituted Eva also scored and Tina successfully kicked through the goal. The 17-0 was a nice cushion on which the Dangels rested a little too much: They gave the Birds a lot of space to play, of which they took advantage. Within the next 20 minutes, the Birds made two tries. That shook up the Dangels, their game got better towards the end of the party. Thanks to two more tries from Sarah and Lala, they won in the end with 29-10 – which sounds more comfortable than it was in the end.
