Oh, what a lovely feeling. Winning. Winning away. Winning in French-Switzerland. Winning against Monthey. Winning with a last minute try.
RCL Men’s team win away to Monthey, April 17. Yes, a habit is forming: we’re leaving things late, after a somewhat slow, cold start. But let’s enjoy this impressive performance for what it was. The squad spirit was unquestionable; the concentration and determination never lacked; and the confidence that we could carry the game right to the end augers well for the rest of the season.
Several players really showed up on the day, determined to lift the already-impressive season higher still. The team was gelling, and the WAGs got what they payed for…
Two yellow cards; two Twats of the Match: John for “having a difference of opinion” with a Monthey forward about a boot to his head; Remo for what can only be called a “professional foul,” obstructing his opposite number from the ball in true football fashion.
John finally got the lead out and performed the (belated) obligation of all RCL debutants: a streak. Equipped with a pirate wig, pirate bandana (not banana, thank you), a pirate eye-patch and pirate pistol (a gun, not a body-part), he did his own “lap of honour” in front of a rather *upset* opposition. Susanne looked on in horror…
And the journey home was an experience in itself. Having rented a pink bus (why?), the long drive back to Luzern commenced. A full 3.5 hrs of rock ‘n roll CDs was supplied, the beer flowed, and Luke instigated a filthy drinking game which soiled the minds of some of the younger players… We stopped off in motorway rest-stop, where Remo did his Twat of the Match streak in the car park, and John plainly refused to, as he likes living in Switzerland, and does not want to be found by the Swiss police…
Roll on, Zurich match…
Final score: Monthey 11 – 12 Luzern
